Three Dimensions Deep - 76%

Amber Mark’s debut album is a nice slab of R&B that is all over the spectrum from production choices. Definitely up to date production techniques on all 17 tracks (no small filler tracks by the way- each song has its own identity). There are times the music flows beautifully with Mark’s attractive voice and vocal stylings: “What It is” sounds like an instant classic, straight out of the cannon this song gives most imitators a run for their money; the bouncy “Bubbles” is a fun track that bounces along using the singers voice to not quite rap but sort of ‘chrip’ along to the music; “Foreign Things” is another song just full of fun stops and starts, and really it just exudes a kind of confidence that most R&B lacks . She could be the next FKA Twigs or Janelle Monae if she wants to follow in their footsteps. Later in the record, “Bliss” and Darkside” are other melodic stand outs.

The only drawback is the unfortunately long runtime, not only is this album an hour long for no real reason but the songs end up becoming a chore since its very repetitive. Picking the best say 8 to 10 tracks from this album would be the obvious way to go, as pop soul music just for the sake of it just sounds rathe disposable after a while. Let’s just say if I didn’t mention a song on here…I didn’t like it very much. Still, there is plenty here to love and it’s a promising debut that if you are in the mod to dig around in, Mark may prove to be more than a singles artist and fine tune her art into albums. Her live show is full of energy and fun, I have been witness to it. Let us hope.
